Trending Four: Hooah for Army Football
The world of college football is in a frenzy after a week filled with competitive and close games that went down to the final play. As we told you in our Football Fri-yay last week, the best game was going to be Oregon and Ohio State and minus the spitting incident, the game was as advertised. Another great game was the B12 battle between Colorado and Kansas State. Shadeur Sanders showcased why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, but the team came up short in an important conference game. Ole Miss and LSU provided an SEC showdown with the Tigers coming out on top in overtime.Â
A lot happened over the weekend, but only four teams can be one of our trending four for NCAA Football 25 as we approach Week 8.Â
Army Black Knights
The Army Black Knights are 6-0 and are rolling their competition week in and week out. Their closest game this season was a 24-7 victory over Florida Atlantic. Army is a team that plays the old school style of football. Run the ball and a strong defensive gameplan. Quarterback Bryson Daily runs their offense and leads the team in both passing yards (482) and rushing yards (738 yards). He has six passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns to equal 20 total touchdowns. Linebacker Andon Thomas leads the team in tackles with an interception. As a team that is climbing the top 25 in college football and remains undefeated, Army deserves a significant raise in team ratings. They’re only a 77 overall, 71 offense, and a 72 defense. Daily is only a 75, and Thomas who leads the team in tackles is only a 68 overall. They both deserve a ratings boost along with the team overall. You can only beat who is in front of you, and the Black Knights and destroy opposing teams.
Floria Gators
The Florida Gators are now 3-3 after their 23-17 loss to an overrated Tennessee Volunteers’ team. They’ve now lost to Texas A&M, Miami (FL), and Florida State this season. Both the offense and the defense are not reaching the expectations experts had prior to the season and especially in NCAA Football 25. Even now, they’re rated an 87 overall with an 83 offense, and 84 defense. Gators quarterback Graham Mertz is rated an 84 in the game and has only thrown for 791 yards in six games. Other quarterback DJ Lagway has only thrown for 765 yards and has thrown four interceptions, yet he is rated an 81. Running back Montrell Johnson Jr. is rated an 87 in the game, yet he has only rushed for 373 yards. The offense is what I have the biggest issue with since this team isn’t moving the ball or scoring as much as they should. This team is a really tough team in the game, but in reality it’s a really down year down in The Swamp.
BYU Cougars
The BYU Cougars continue to showcase that they’re a team that is serious about being included in the College Football Playoff talks. The Cougars are coming off a very impressive 41-19 victory over a high-powered offensive attack with the Arizona Wildcats. Not only was the defense impressive, but the offense continues to be their bread and butter. Junior quarterback Jake Retzlaff is the leader of this offense and leads the team in both passing yards (1,426) and rushing yards (184). He has 14 touchdowns and five interceptions with a 65.5 QBR that ranks in the top 50 in the nation. Pretty impressive stats for a guy on a smaller program that has the ball in his hands quite often. BYU is still undefeated at 6-0 and is close to cracking the top 10 teams in the country. Their offense is only rated a 75 in the game with an 80 overall. At the very least their offense should be an 80.Â
Ole Miss Rebels
I’ve been kind of tough on the LSU Tigers all season, yet they’re still 5-1 and just beat Ole Miss in a 29-26 overtime thriller. The Rebels now fall to 5-2 and are on the verge of falling out of the top 25. To be blunt, it is obvious that outside of Heisman hopeful quarterback Jaxson Dart, this team is completely average. In the game, the Rebels defense is rated an 86, yet they haven’t been able to defend Kentucky or LSU.
Also, Dart is phenomenal, but as amazing as he is, the offense outside of him is pretty mediocre. It kind of reminds me of what Colorado is dealing with; a great quarterback, good running back, no offensive line. Their offense should not be rated an 89. Let’s not forget how outmatched this team looked a few weeks ago against Kentucky. They followed that up with a lopsided victory over South Alabama and now a loss to LSU. This team is overrated in the game and it’s time the ratings take a little dip.
